Types of Acne

  • Nodular– this occurs when swollen pores endure further irritation and grow larger. Nodules are deeper underneath the skin, inflamed and painful.
  • Papules– hard, clogged pores that are tender to the touch. The skin around these pores is usually pink.
  • Blackheads– these occur when a pore is clogged by a combination of sebum and dead skin cells. Blackheads are darkened by oxidation, not dirt! The dead cells are exposed to open air that turns them black.
  • Whiteheads– form when a pore gets clogged by oil and dead skin cells. Identifiable by its name, whiteheads appear as pimples with rounded white tops. They frequently appear in areas more prone to oil like the T-Zone.
  • Pustule– an inflamed blemish with an obvious white or yellow head. They’re similar to whiteheads but are distinguished by a more red and inflamed appearance.
