Debunking the Myths About Spa Treatments Using CBD

Debunking the Myths About Spa Treatments Using CBD

There are skepticisms over CBD and many question whether or not its use has any real benefits. Keep reading to find out why we believe it offers an array of potential health effects and why we use it in our spa treatments, while also debunking a few common myths.

CBD and Spa Centers don’t go together

Well, when you think about it, the two actually make complete sense in combining. According to research, cannabidiol has several benefits for the skin including reducing inflammation and helping acne. Its inflammatory properties reduce swelling and redness from breakouts and skin irritations. CBD also regulates oil production which is why we see major results for our acne-prone clients and it hydrates the skin which is perfect for our clients who have dry skin! Spas are meant for you to unwind and destress, thus CBD is a great addition to incorporate. CBD is known for its relaxing effect and helping to ease anxiety, so no wonder more wellness centers are infusing treatments with CBD oils and lotions!

CBD is illegal

America has had a long legal battle with cannabis dating all the way back to the mid-1930s. In 1970, all forms of marijuana were banned, even for medicinal use. Recently in 2014, the federal government passed the Farm Bill, legalizing hemp. Some states have honored this change, called legal states, and others allow hemp-derived products but have placed some limitations, called conditionally-legal states. Essentially this means that no states in America ban the use of CBD anymore. For example, in North Carolina, marijuana-derived CBD is illegal, while CBD oil is allowed. They are classified as a conditionally-legal state. In Colorado’s case, both marijuana and hemp-derived CBD oils are allowed, meaning they are a fully legal state. Most CBD companies run in legal states including Washington, Colorado, Oregon, and California.

CBD gets you high

As mentioned previously, the federal government passed the Farm Bill which was partly due to the fact that hemp does not contain any psychoactive substances that would create a high. Marijuana, on the other hand, does have psychoactive effects and can produce a high. It is classified as a Schedule 1 drug meaning it is completely illegal. Hemp, though, is completely legal and not a controlled substance. The reason it will not get you high is that the plant contains less than 0.3% THC by dried weight and contains larger amounts of CBD, a non-psychoactive substance. Instead, people tend to report being in a more calming and relaxing state while using CBD.

CBD is addictive

Contrary to popular belief, there actually isn’t any evidence supporting CBD to be addictive. In fact, the World Health Organization came out with a statement that cannabidiol does not cause any harm nor does it have any traits that could lead to or suggest substance abuse. Surprisingly enough, there are research findings indicating CBD can help prevent relapses and could even lower the possibility of someone partaking in drugs like cocaine or heroin.

You can overdose on CBD

Technically speaking, you can overdose on almost everything, even water! This just means the body’s threshold has been exceeded and it is now at a toxic level. For example, there is only so much water you can drink before it gets to a dangerous level and would become an overdose.

When typically hearing about an overdose, the first thing that comes to mind is usually a fatality. To set your mind at ease, there are no research findings suggesting that CBD usage can cause death. There has also never been a confirmed case of someone dying due to ingesting too much CBD.

We want to emphasize that there is no correlation between CBD producing a high-like effect and it having addictive properties. We hope this information clarifies the topic of CBD for you and helps to explain the logic behind using it with spa treatments. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy your long-awaited spa day while we do the rest!
